AMECYS Opportunities

Periodically AMECYS will post internship and other opportunities for scholars seeking to contribute to the organization and to the field of Child and Youth Studies in the MENA and Gulf region. 

AMECYS Higher Education Organizational Leadership Internship

Spring-Summer and Fall 2026  (Remote Position)

The Association of Middle East Children and Youth Studies (AMECYS) seeks one or more unpaid interns to work remotely with our nonprofit scholarly association during Spring and Summer and/or Fall 2026.

 

Internship Overview: Involvement in AMECYS will enable the intern to learn about administrative and executive management of a nonprofit higher education association. Specifically, intern will gain insight into day-to-day operations, organizational vision, governance and bylaws, nonprofit tax and legal compliance and administration, academic association management, strategic planning and implementation, data management and archival practices, and fundraising and communications. The intern will also gain insight into the scholarly subject matter the organization dedicates itself to.

 

AMECYS is a 501(c)(3) private, non-profit, international membership-based association for scholars with an interest in the study of children and youth in the Middle East, North Africa, Gulf and their diasporic communities. Through interdisciplinary programs, publications, and services, AMECYS promotes innovative scholarship, facilitates global academic exchange, and enhances public understanding about and by Middle Eastern, North African and Gulf children and youth in diverse times and places from any disciplinary and methodological approach. Supervision Structure: Selected interns will be assigned directly to work with the AMECYS President, and operate under the President’s supervision, as well as with the broader Executive Committee when relevant, including the Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer, as well as the Communications Chair.

 

Expectations: Interns will be expected to work between 5 to 10 hours per week. Organization and pace of the work will involve a weekly or bi-monthly meeting with the President. Outside of that, interns will set their own schedule, turning in work prior to any scheduled meetings. Interns will assist with tasks, including but not limited to, internal and external deadline tracking and workflow, board and committee coordination, membership listserv and social media management, organizational compliance and documentation, data storage, archival, and retrieval systems, monthly agenda preparation and administrative support, secondary research related to AMECYS’ mission, compliance needs and/or fundraising, and member database and website upkeep.

 

Required Skills: Interns must demonstrate (1) excellent English writing and editing skills, (2) strong attention to detail (3) exceptional organizational skills, (4) ability to conduct online library and database research and synthesize information relevant to AMECYS mission, nonprofit compliance and/or fundraising, (4) working knowledge of basic digital tools such as cloud-based storage platforms (e.g. Google Drive), survey/form tools (e.g. Microsoft and google forms), and excel.

 

Graduate Discipline/Undergraduate Major of study is open (AMECYS is an interdisciplinary association). Internships may be arranged for academic credit, subject to university policies. AMECYS will provide required documentation to verify work completed.

 

Preferred Skills: Preference will be given to applicants with (1) familiarity with Wix website software, (2) experience with Canva or other design tools, (3) knowledge of grant writing or fundraising processes, and (4) proficiency in one or more spoken, written and/or sign languages of the Middle East, North Africa and Gulf.

  5. Names of 2–3 faculty references, their email and if available, phone or Whatsapp number

  6. One writing sample (The writing sample will be used solely to evaluate research, reading, and writing skills. Subject matter is not important.)

 

Selection Process:

Promising applicants will be called in for a Zoom interview.
